Marquette-based VAST has tapped risk advisor Kelly Reed as its new chief executive officer, effective last March 01.

In his new role, Reed will provide thought leadership and innovative business strategies that offer VAST’s clients a competitive advantage. Reed succeeds Scott White, who has been the chief executive officer of VAST since 1998. White will officially retire from VAST in May.

Reed has been with the insurance and risk management firm for 15 years, starting as a business risk advisor to help small to medium-sized enterprises manage risk through commercial insurance. Later, he went on to take the role of a risk adviser for health care providers throughout the U.S. According to a statement from VAST, Reed will continue this work in his role as chief executive officer. Among his specializations include medical professional liability, worker compensation, management liability and loss portfolio transfers. In addition, Reed has also advised multiple healthcare clients through mergers and acquisitions. Outside VAST, Reed is also a part of the Michigan Agent Council for Accident Fund and is the Chair of the Enterprise Agent Council for ProAssurance, the third-largest medical professional liability carrier in the world. Reed also has a number of industry recognitions under his wing, having been named a winner of Young Guns 2018 by Insurance Business America. In addition, he is most recently a finalist for the 22 Health Care Power Broker.
